Did you know the first Women’s Day was celebrated in the United States in February 1909? The following year an International Women’s Conference was held in Copenhagen and shortly thereafter the idea to celebrate an annual Women’s Day was born.
“La Festa della Donna” is widely celebrated in Italy as a day to honor all women. The Italian symbol for Women’s Day is the yellow mimosa flower.
In more recent years this holiday has become highly commercialized in Italy as a day for women to go out together to restaurants and pubs and enjoy themselves.
