Best overall diet for the third year

According to U.S. News and World Report, the Mediterranean Diet was voted BEST OVERALL DIET for the third year in a row!

The Mediterranean Diet was first mentioned in the 1950s by American physiologist, Ancel Benjamin Keys. He was searching for a correlation between coronary heart disease and diet. His first case study was in Naples due to the fact that they had the highest concentration of centenarians in the world.

Keys’ hypothesis was that a diet high in animal fat led to heart disease and that a Mediterranean diet, which was exteremely low in animal fat, would help protect the heart from disease. He also concluded that unsaturated fat found in vegetable oils had health benefits for the population.

Today, the Mediterranean Diet is protected and promoted by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a resource of cultural heritage. This includes formal recognition of its health benefits, minimal environmental impact, economic benefits for the communities in which it is practiced due to its use of local produce and a social-cultural value due to its tradition of preparing and eating meals with others whilst conversing.

All of this recognition because, as you Villa Mosconi patrons know all too well, the Mediterranean Diet is not just about food – it’s a life style! The Mosconi’s are famous for being authentic and welcoming not only for the dishes we offer, but just as importantly for our big smiles, strong hugs and loud hellos!! And thanks to the mutual love and support we receive back from our guests, we’ve been able to survive and thrive in New York City for all these years.

As always our love and gratitude goes out to all of our clients. It brings us immense joy to be able to serve you the same authentic homemade dishes that our mothers and grandmothers prepared for us before the phrase mediterranean diet even existed.
